PIcking the Best Blue Ridge Shenandoah Valley Wedding Photographer

Probably the biggest decision a bride and groom have to make besides the venue for their wedding is the photographer.  Years ago there were two choices, the traditional and the photo journalistic. Today most photographers know to say they are journalistic due to its popularity but are they really?

Shenandoah Valley Wedding PhotographersI recently interviewed photographer, Steve Dalgetty of An Endless Pursuit Photography.  I believe I understand how he and Bernadette came across the name of their photography company. 'An Endless Pursuit' states the artistic journalistic approach that Steve and Bernadette offer their clients.

Here are some simple questions I asked Steve -

Why do you like weddings?

"It is the natural emotion that is at all weddings.  We thrive off this energy.  Weddings are jammed full of positive emotion which make them easy to shoot."

Photo Journalistic Photography Shenandoah ValleyWhy should a bride hire you?

"For us it is our very stylized journalistic approach - we try to pull the fun artistic creativity out of the couple we are shooting. Our approach is more West Coast Style."

"Our brand is centered around who we are as people.  Brides and Grooms need to realize that not only are they hiring a professional but they are really hiring a personality behind a camera. Photography is hard work so we want to work with clients we enjoy. We avoid the numbers game.  Our goal is to let the images think for themselves and create a conversation!"

Shenandoah Valley PhotographyWho are your clients?

"Our client are usually between mid 20's and 30's.  They appreciate great photographs.  They are slightly above the deal seekers.  They understand 'our style of shooting' and love to put as much fun into their life as possible."

As you walk around the Blue Ridge Bridal Show next weekend, remember that anyone can buy a digital camera and shoot pictures but it takes an artist to take the product beyond mere pictures and turn it into a tangible wedding album that will always be there.

Drop by Steve and Bernadette's booth as well as the other photographers who are at the show.  Remember Steve and Bernadette will be interviewing you as much as you are interviewing them.

We are talking about photographers on the blog below, good article. I had to go with experience than just starting out!

Hi Carrie,
Thanks for your post! We're newer to the area... not the biz, so we didn't just start out. Just wanted to clarify for anybody reading. Thanks!

Yes, i know I was just reiterating that going with experience was my preference; although, newer photographers are usually more affordable.

Steve and Carrie - sorry for the confusion I created. You two should meet on Sunday just for the networking opportunity. Steve, Carrie is great at it plus she has interesting occupation.

You are right Carrie that new photographers are more affordable but this might not be true by the time you have the finished product. Annie could tell you quite a story about her wedding. Not all the photographer's fault but definitely cost her much more than what she negotiated at the beginning. See her at the show too, I know she wants to meet you if only due to your love of dogs. I think she has four? or was it five??? Her mother has a horse farm.

Great article! It is always great to see work the photographer has done before deciding on them for the wedding!

Nancy, I'm always up for networking, thats a large part of my job, or most jobs! The moment we stop learning is when we should change jobs! My bff will be wedding planning soon, so the info will be passed on!

Cannot tell you how many jobs I got as an event planner thru networking and being passed on to a new bride. We are happy you are in our camp.
